My sister has limited funds and has asked me to get her a hard drive recorder.

The Humax Shop currently has the PVR-9300T/500-G for £99, which seems like a good price (the best I have seen elsewhere is about £140).

I am assuming the 9300T has been discontinued for quite a while and that these are customer returns?

Any thoughts/experiences of buying 'Grade A' kit from Humax would be appreciated.

Any reason to avoid the 9300T?

Any suggestions for other Humax twin-tuner models to consider, up to say £150? (She is looking for a 'basic' PVR and does not have an Internet connection)

The 9300T has a number of moderate problems and it isn't clear whether Humax will update the software to fix them. For just slightly more than her £150 budget (£159) you can get an HDR-FOX T2 which is a significantly better PVR than the 9300 and software updates for it are still trickling out. If her requirements only require a single tuner then a Grade A HD-FOX T2 plus a USB hard drive would be another option that is well within budget.

The 9300 is still current on the Humax UK web site.

    Thanks for your help.

She has decided to go for the 9300T/320 @ £89. My local retailer wants £170 for the same (not Graded) model, so it's a bit of a bargain I think.
