I have downloaded the Android App and set up a FreeSat account which confirms my new 1010S is paired with my FreeSat ID.
Using the app I can control the 1010S without a problem using the remote control screens. Selecting a programme from the TV guide allows me to 'watch now' but if I try to select 'record', on the same screen, I'm getting the pairing screen and being asked to input the pairing code (which it then says has expired).
Surely the fact its controlling the device means its paired.
    What am I missing?

A unpaired app will let you use it as a remote control when connected to your home network. To access the freesat servers it needs to be paired. Be aware one paired your box will wake up about every 20 minutes to check the servers for recording schedule changes.

Ah, so maybe a good thing to not have the recording option.

The majority don't. Many asked freesat to include a new setting to control this, fell on deaf ears, so far anyway.

Strange that on the Freesat site it is showing the pairing and has sent my name to the Humax box.
Anyway I'm quite happy to do without the record facility, given the downside.
I have a Virgin TiVo which sets up recordings from the internet, at a distance, whilst being in standby so I'll free up space and use that.
    Thanks for the advice.

Some boxes never really go into proper standby, so have no need to wake up in order to check for recording requests. It may look as if they're doing it while in standby, but they're really just playing possum.

Yes, you're right. Even in standby, having been like that all night, I can feel a bit of heat coming off the top of the TiVo but not the Humax 1010S.
There's me been thinking its been standing by using a fraction of a watt!

Sky boxes especially are notorious for using nearly the same in "standby" as full on. Very misleading.
