Our Humax 9150T has started a fault which appears to be operation of a cooling fan(?) more or less continually ie it switches on, runs for a few seconds, then off for a few seconds, continually. Has anyone come across this? Where do I hit it with the hammer?

It's been many years since i had a 9200T. That sometimes had an issue with the fan running on when it was really in sby. I take it that the box wasn't recording at the time ? You could try switching it off at the mains for 15 minutes or so.

Graham, the fan logic of the 9200T is different to the 9150Ts and 9300Ts. The 9150T and 9300T fan logic was initially the same as all but the earliest 9200Ts but Humax changed the 9150T and 9300T fan logic after a few software iterations. A correctly working 9150T and 9300T roar into life when initially loading and then switch off the fan entirely until a critical temperature is reached. If I recall correctly the general opinion was that the reason that the 9150T and 9300T fan is much noisier than the 9200Ts' fans is due to a combination of the housing and the choice of fan, but mainly the housing.

Thanks for your contributions gentlemen. The unit is not recording as it misbehaves in the way I described. Neither is it at all hot or even warm. The fan just seems to have a mind of its own. Any further thoughts very welcome.

Have you tried a Default Setting? Always the first thing to try when these machines misbehave.
