When I copy recordings from the internal HDD to a USB stick they have subtitles 'on'. Is there any way to turn them off when copying to USB?

Being able to turn the subtitle data on and off would normally be down to whatever software you are using to play back an exported file. I don't have the box but it may be possible to strip out the subtitle stream from the recording if there is no option to turn it off.

If you could download MediaInfo and open the file in it and select stream view and export this data to a text file to see what exactly the file has within it, I may be able to suggest a way to remove the data, if you post the text data.

Thanks for the reply but it can't be a PC software problem as the subtitles are there when I play back the file on the Humax box...!
(No subtitles on the original, but subtitles on the copy)!

That's why I asked you to post the actual file details. I suppose it's possible thst the subtitles are superimposed on the video data during copying. Seems unlikely as no one else has posted this before. The audio and video data from MediaInfo would confirm this one way or the other. I will grab a file from a HDR FOX T2 and post an example.

Never had this issue copying SD and HD to a 1TB usb HDD (ntfs format)

Will try a 128Gb pendrive and report later

Copy to a 128Gb pendrive failed, and unit cannot format either?

What size pendrive are you using?

Thanks, I take it that's from the tree view option. Very strange, can you try a 16:9 SD copy from a programme with subtitles to see if you can reproduce, especially as Barry can replay without subtitles. What are you using to replay the content, and if a PC/MAC what media player software ?

Something very fishy. Freeview does not normally use ac3 audio, so if from a FVP4000T SD programme it should be Mpeg1 Layer 2.

Which channel was it recorded from ?

    Freeview-HD uses AAC not AC3.

A few examples of the audio tree from SD recordings:

    Eggheads

    Audio
    ID : 302 (0x12E)
    Menu ID : 4608 (0x1200)
    Format : MPEG Audio
    Format version : Version 1
    Format profile : Layer 2
    Codec ID : 3
    Duration : 21mn 34s
    Bit rate mode : Constant
    Bit rate : 256 Kbps
    Channel(s) : 2 channels

    Cue the Queen

    Audio #1
    ID : 102 (0x66)
    Menu ID : 4162 (0x1042)
    Format : MPEG Audio
    Format version : Version 1
    Format profile : Layer 2
    Codec ID : 3
    Duration : 3mn 30s
    Bit rate mode : Constant
    Bit rate : 256 Kbps
    Channel(s) : 2 channels

    Riders of Berk

    Audio
    ID : 302 (0x12E)
    Menu ID : 4608 (0x1200)
    Format : MPEG Audio
    Format version : Version 1
    Format profile : Layer 2
    Codec ID : 3
    Duration : 21mn 34s
    Bit rate mode : Constant
    Bit rate : 256 Kbps
    Channel(s) : 2 channels

I've tried a few Pendrives, none will format, and whilst it appears to copy programmes to them, it does not.
