I've recently bought a DTR-T2000, and would like to add wifi. Which USB wifi dongle should I buy to be compatible? (I've tried two makes of powerline homeplugs but my PVR is on a different ring main to the router and they won't work reliably enough. If push comes to shove I'll run a cat 5 cable but its a horrible run, a right pita). Thanks

No experience of this box. But adding a a usb extension cable may help in moving the dongle to a better position may help.

Also something like this to create a WiFi hot spot. (you may be abe to do this with a phone if you have unlimited data.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/XINGDONGCHI-Wireless-N-Extender-Repeater-External/dp/B071L939FZ/ref=sr_1_17?adgrpid=53310796295&dchild=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw_qb3BRAVEiwAvwq6VpQ58ZhzFTCNyxClWJVbQ9g4FIMTF_d16tQX_KReqLxdXPrcuQreEBoCqxgQAvD_BwE&hvadid=259016914938&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=1007011&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=10679896752544290618&hvtargid=kwd-361530570237&hydadcr=5058_1827822&keywords=wifi+access+point&qid=1592426347&sr=8-17&tag=googhydr-21

In the end nothing works better than direct cabling. If you have more kit use a network switch and a single cable to support multiple kit with one cable.

You don't need one if you set up a local wifi hotspot using the box network socket.

    Example

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-Wireless-Access-Business-WAC104-100UKS/dp/B01LWUJU8H/ref=lp_430580031_1_17?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1592426840&sr=1-17

If you really need WiFi look at a mesh system.

Forgive me I don't understand. Are you saying I need that huge router to receive a wifi signal instead of a simple USB dongle receiver?

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. My wifi signal in the area is fine. The Humax box needs a wifi receiver, it doesn't have wifi built in. I need to know which wifi receiver dongles are usable in the USB socket on the T2000?

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. My wifi signal in the area is fine. The Humax box needs a wifi receiver, it doesn't have wifi built in.

I do not have the box. The fact that your box and router are on different ring mains suggests you have a fairly large property. I have a 4 bedroom property and a single 300MbPS pair of home plugs supports a lot of kit using a 16 way 1Gbps network switch works for me. All kit is downstairs. Router is upstairs. The rest is unknown, no idea how your property is wired.

I have the similar HDR-FOx-T2 but all my kit is hard wired.

With no built in WiFi you need a to create a local WiFi hotspot that your router can receive or a superior router to your most likely crap ISP router has provided.

If your WiFi is fine, any of the suggested solutions should work.

Suggest you do a litle research of your own. There are lots of ways of creating a Wifi hotspot that your router can log into.

I have no idea how large your house is.

    Hence the mesh system suggestion.

Sorry I am out of here.

You want somebody to suggest a solution based on only the fact that your box and router are on different ring mains, and expect a definitive solution ?

No, I'm talking about using something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gaoni-Adapter-1200Mbps-Network-10-6-10-14/dp/B07YDD72FC/ref=sr_1_5?crid=G9DHXIBKTHQS&dchild=1&keywords=usb+wifi+receiver&qid=1592429067&sprefix=usb+wifi+reci%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-5

Many people have used simple USB wifi recievers on their Humax PVRs. It has to be the right one, otherwise it doesn't work. Its a simple question, which one, but you are answering a different question. I do not need a wifi hotspot. Perhaps someone who has actually read my question will come along and help.

As far as I know the DTR-T2000 doesn't support a USB dongle; presumably a decision from Youview. A reasonably cheap device that will function as a wireless bridge is a TP-Link WR-802N https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/3g-usb-adapter/tl-wr802n/ You would need to configure it in client mode.

Thanks, and thanks for reading my question properly.

None will work with any current, or previous, DTR model, or any other youview box that has been made so far.

A possible alternative would be a Wi-Fi to Ethernet bridge device. The last time I looked one of those which can be powered via one of the youview box's ports would cost £25. It will need to be first paired to your Wi-Fi through a PC, i.e. it is not a plug and play option.

    Your post is very odd.
Instead of posting this in the youview section you have posted this in the "Welcome" section which is meant for introducing yourself.

There is a youview section on this site. There is also a FAQ section for youview which already contains an answer to your question.
