I've just purchased one of these EW-7711UAn adapters from ebay (hd_direct) and am having the same problem. HDR-FOX T2 and HD-FOX T2 both recognize adapter is plugged in but no network found.
I then installed it on my PC using the drivers it came with and had the same problem, adapter found but no networks found.
I then installed it using a different driver and it works perfectly.
I think that some of these adapters have been made with a different chipset, and the driver disk is for the original chipset.
Or maybe these adapters are fake.
There was no windows 8 logo on box.

For streaming I think hard wired or power line adapters is the way to go. You can get power line adapters with a pass through mains socket so you dont lose an outlet. WiFi is good for browsing and email but not so much media streaming. Just my 2p worth.
