I seem to remember that very early versions of the 9200 worked as you describe. As the fan is controlled by the hardware, there is nothing you can do about it.
Check the hardware version in Menu/system/status/HW version.

Hi bmax
it could well be an early one as it was originally purchased in 2007 so if this is normal for early ones its not a major problem as it isn't annoyingly noisy,I have it in bits at the moment because it also has the clock problem so I am attempting the biggles cleaning fix for that,
thanks

IIRC there were different batches of fans and the very early models had quiet ones whilst later ones seemed to be more noisy and led to some people either changing them or fitting a speed controller to reduce noise.
My own model bought in late 2005 has the quiet fan that stays on in standby.| Sat 6 Jul 2013 12:24:19 #4 | -
I'm pretty sure this is an early one ,the fan stays on in standby but is not noisy, the other ones I have worked on are newer and the fan goes off in standby but are not noisy when on.fixed faulty clock using biggles cleaning method using isopropomol, didn't work at first so gave it a more vigourous scrub and bingo, clock up and running, got a problem with another pvr9200t involving freezing during playback, haven't looked at it yet but will try default reset and check what firmware it has on it,has anyone else had any issues involving playback freezing?
