Just over a month ago I contacted Humax and asked if a new Freeview Play model was in the pipeline. I was told categorically that they had no plans, so I somewhat reluctantly bought the FVP-4000T from Currys. Now today I learn they are launching a new model, the FVP-5000T which addresses many of the complaints about the old box. I'm not best pleased!

Not unusual for corporates not to release product data ahead of their release and this presumably is the reason behind why the Live TV app upgrade to 64 bit was being held back. As for it solving many of the 4000T issues, it will be interesting to see how this pans out. R-

Reads like a great spec. Be interesting to see how users report on it.

Looking for differences I've only been able to spot 5mhz capability and a review saying it had a faster processor. Other aspects I've seen highlighted I thought had already been added to the FVP-4000T e.g. number of channels on the guide, but as I have neither I'll just have to wait for real reviews to be published. One review screen shot still has the transparency behind the guide, and it also has a picture of a RM-L08 which won't satisfy those who prefer to have an info button.Pollensa1946 - 1 hour ago »

Transparency can be switched on/off
OK button will provide info without changing channel in Guide| Wed 27 Sep 2017 13:39:19 #5 | -
I imagine that this means the 4000 won't be getting any (much-needed) updates from now on. Still, the last one wasn't much good.
The details in the email suggest the 5000 might be fit for purpose.
I think I'll ask Humax for an exchange and see what happens.
And yes, I'm not best pleased either.David

IS IT QUIET IN OPERATION PLEASE?
The only other thing I would like to see is standard looking box.
This design is very much for show homes. I dont like stacking boxes but I prefer that option| Wed 27 Sep 2017 15:21:48 #8 | -
From what I have seen so far from the pictures they haven’t improved the format of the recording list and the layout of the recordings seem to show less than before, I can only see a list of 8 displayed, but I understand you can still view them as a grid which I prefer. Can folders be created now to cut down on the clutter of recordings? Same remote too.
The guide looks the same which is OK, but I can’t see any use of the coloured buttons for quickly jumping between functions which would make a huge difference to usability
Unless they have made it as quick as my previous HDR-FOXT2 I won't be changing, I have already seen one review that puts one of its bad points as 'occasionally slow' so I not holding my breath.
I look forward to seeing some YouTube reviews where I can see it in action.

Barry,
I hope this means you know something which you can't make public.
