The wifi signal in front room is 2 out of 4 bars; the signal in the back room is 3 out of 4 bars.

What I would suggest you do is temporarily move the Humax from the front room into the back room and do a test to see if thing work better. If they do work better then your problem is indeed the WiFi signal strength. You could either boost the WiFi signal strength or use Homeplug adapters to send the signal via the mains wiring (which is what I do).

Thank you. I moved the router earlier this morning to the passage and the signal was better and I was able to play the beginning of a recording which was much improved. I don't really want the router in the passage along with the associated wires. I will have a look at Wifi boosters similar to the solution you have. I was looking at some on Amazon/Currys/Argos so back to the drawing board and hopefully a solution.

What Homeplugs are reliable. I don’t want to pay the earth but want something that has been tried and tested. Thank you

TP-Link are a reasonable choice. Perhaps TP-Link TL-PA4010PKIT for about £30 for a pair from Amazon.

BTW, don't put the homeplugs into an extension lead: They should be plugged directly into the wall socket (your ring mains).
