Is it normal for the hard disc to start up every half an hour or so for about 3-4 minutes, i can hear a whirring sound now and again coming from the box.

Normal if you paired a mobile device to it otherwise not.

At a guess you have the remote scheduling ios app. If so the box is checking in for any changes you may have made.

I've unpaired my Freesat ID from my box for this very reason.
I live in hope that this issue can be addressed, but do wonder what the likelihood is that the box can actually wake up in standby to check the Freesat ID server without the HDD booting up. Anyone know?

There's no way I'm using the app until they allow user setting of the wake up interval. For me ideally every 12 to 24 hours.

I've unpaired my i-pad and it has solved the problem, i won't pair it again until they change the frequency to at least once every 2-3 hours.

I would like to be able to set an interval and a start and stop time. I never suddenly want to record anything when I am sleeping.
