HDR-1000S transfer of hard drive from other box

Apologies if this has been covered in another thread.

I am helping a freind who has a failed HDR-1000S. If he buys a replacement one from eBay can we transfer the hard drive from his current one? Or are all his recordings encrypted and only playable on the original machine like other Humax models?

Yes the drives can be swapped but all recordings are encrypted and only playable on the original machine.
