Try this, it always worked for me in the past on the HDR-FOX. Take an empty USB stick (or one whose contents you don't want to keep) and format it in FAT 32 on a windows PC: do a full format. Copy the unzipped update file (HDF) to the root of the USB stick and try again.

One of the sticks was prepared in exactly the way you describe. Didn't help.
Thanks for the thought, though.

chrisdaniels it's about the only thing I didn't mention in my post so in reply yes, the file is unzipped and placed directly in the root of the USB drive.
Barry I'm sure I've tried every permutation there is from touching to tapping to holding to swearing at the channel down button on power up but still nothing and I see raichea is having exactly the same problem trying to update.
Now I see pilgrim42 has mentioned a marked increase in sensitivity, I could certainly do without that.| Fri 17 Oct 2014 15:14:50 #33 | -
How long was your box in sby before trying to update ?

I have tried endless times to update the software and the f*****g thing keeps crashing saying E016 network error and then reboots. Refuses to work.

@grahamlthompson. If that question was to me, the box was in standby all night.
What does a successful USB upgrade look like? My box does this each time it fails to recognise the upgrade:
1. Plug in power
2. Sits there for a few seconds
3. Blue light comes on
4. Normal Humax screen appears
5. Blank screen
6. Light turns red as disk starts to make noise
7. Just sits there until I try it againWhere does a successful upgrade depart from this?

Not seen a HDR2000T, but based on all the other models you get a screen with a progress bar that initially says downloading then changes to installing. The access light on the stick should also be lit as the box reads the .hdf file.

Had no trouble updating with a 0.5GB memory stick formatted FAT32 with just the update file in root. Just followed the instructions.
Disconnected power
Plugged in stick in front USB
Powered back up pressing (down arrow) button.
Screen appears stating old version and new version and progress of file transfer.
At 100% message comes up asking to be put into stand-by.
After that take out of standby and use normally.
I was releaved to see that recording shedule was unaffected (as Barry stated)
Also noticed signal strength levels on all Muxes appear higher than before, more reasonable considering all show 100% quality.
I am in dilema regarding standby mode as I have had the box so long and all of us have got used to firing it up to watch TV.
My remaining gripe is no itv player etc on Humax web portal.

I've tried several sticks now:
1GB, 8GB, 32GB
...then, following @rocksteady's post, I hunted out an old 256MB stick
No change
This is so crap! I'm beginning to worry how the power jack is going to stand up to the constant unplugging/plugging - I can't easily get to the mains plug.

Why are you having to remove the power ? The update should work from normal standby.
