Hello. I've had my hdr-fox t2 since 2012, never had any issues until today. I turned it on this evening and the light turned blue as expected, however the machine was unresponsive. I turned if off at the mains, but when I turned it back on it was completely dead - no lights, no sound of the drive booting up, nothing. Help!
    Any advice gratefully received.
    Many thanks.

PS If it's had it, is there a way of getting at the recordings on the drive?

Open the case and disconnect the hard drive. Now try and boot the machine.

There are ways of recovering the recordings to use on a new machine but they depend on having the source machine fully working. If the box is bust and not repairable or the hard drive is unreadable you have left backing up too late.

    Welcome to our forum.

Thanks for your message, Graham. I've now tried that and it's still completely dead.
Sounds like there is nothing else I can do to recover the contents of the drive?

I take it you have done the obvious like checking the fuse in the plug ?

If I was you I would be opening the box and looking for something obvious, look carefully at the capacitors in the power supply for signs of bulging. It might be worth a local TV repair man checking the power supply voltages on the mother board with a meter before writing it off.

Power supply issues are the most simple to diagnose and repair since many of the issues relate to standard component issues like resistors and capacitors.

This box is one of the more reliable Humax boxes also one of the most capable.

Thanks again Graham, I'll investigate further.

I had this problem a few years ago. I have no idea why this works but it was fixed by tapping the large front button a few times once a second.

I have not had a repetition of this fault.

If that doesn't work, try unplugging it for at least an hour.

Thanks very much - tried both but no joy I'm afraid.

Hello again. I've now contacted a few local TV and computer repair people but nobody's interested.
Does anyone on the Forum know of somewhere that might take a look?
    Thanks again.

Hi Colesy, it sounds rather like the power isn't getting to the motherboard. There are many things to check from the fuse in the plug to the fuses and fusible links on the power supply board. Have you tried disconnecting that board and examining it closely? Requires only two screws and two connectors to extract it from the case, and then you'd maybe see discolouration showing something has blown or overheated and have some idea about what the problem is. (I don't know if there are any for sale anywhere, but the swap is easy.)
