Thanks Graham but I think a reduction of 10Watts power consumption is hardly going to be noticed.
Sad fact is the product is not working as it should - it would not have been designed to do this - I don't want to return / refund it as it otherwise ticks all the right boxes.

Based on 16hrs a day approx 60 extra units/annum. The splitter will pay for itself in less than 12 months. Could even improve your pictures, the more sensitive Humax tuners are prone to signal overload and often require attenuation in high signal strength locations.

yep, well aware of all problems caused by DTTV hence the comment about signal strength and all cabling from aerial to boxes in WF100 double + foil screened cable

Splitters are OK if your in a strong signal area, But I bought 2 to try and they dropped my signal down from 80% to 50% which caused my TV to pixelate and lose channels , so I rang an aerial guy up and he said if this happens try a twin aerial booster for using on a 2 TV set up from one aerial, which I got from Argos now my set up works great.
Basically its just trial and error which ever works for you and the area you live in.

OK, so I installed a DECENT splitter which I happened to have - i.e. a metal cased one rather than the cheapo plastic junk and it dropped the signal from 80 to 72% which is acceptable (DTTV should be OK down to around 40%).
With DTTV however the MOST IMPORTANT criteria is the quality, this has remained at 100% and the pixellation issues have obviously ceased as the RF loopthrough is no longer there.... but that's hardly the point....it shouldn't do it in the first place.

Note to bill63.....do NOT aim for 100% signal strength (80% is the ideal), as Graham ponted out a digital signal overload will send the receiver into error and may even shut it down completely returning a no signal message !

Thanks... have now found the sound ceases to work if the box is left on but the TV is turned off (i.e. to speed up the tiresome startup time) necessating a re-boot of the box..... so the decision has been made to return it

I'm not sure why you would expect the sound to work with the TV switched off? A modern PVR is actually a small computer and with any such device they do require time to boot. I'm not sure what you were expecting but good luck with a replacement from another manufacturer as they work the same way. I have a Panasonic PVR and that also takes some time to boot.

Hi Davidwf My set up works for me, these twin TV amps don't boost the signal that much, even with mine its only 83% max signal strength. As Graham said 100% would be to strong. That's why I said its trial and error go for the cheapest option first. But your right it should not be like that, but for me my Humax 2000T is a good reliable box. But if your not happy with yours then I would go for the Panasonic PVR a bit more expensive. But bearing in mind it only as HDMI output only there is no scart connection. But for what I gather it as good reviews.

Faust : I chose to leave it powered to eliminate the boot up delay, previous and other boxes work OK doing that

bill63 : We are goiung for the Panny FreeviewPlay box.... yes much dearer but better reviews so far.
    HDMI only isn't a problem....SCART is sooooo 20th century

Thanks again to all for your replies

Hi davidwf glad you have found a box you like, hope you are happy with it as Panasonic is a good make.
