The fact that the laptop performs perfectly from the connection you were using for the Humax box prompts the thought that perhaps the maximum packet length settings are different, and you need to adjust those for the Humax to match those which work on the laptop (probably downward).
I'm afraid I cannot quote the method here quickly, but I found a reference to this setting in one of the Humax forums a day or so back.
