I've noticed a couple of times recently, well, again just now as it happens while Mme. Pub was brewing up before the new series of Blue Planet.

I had pause active so we were about 3 mins behind, about 5 minutes into the programme the box, for no reason, jumped to live TV and of course rewind wouldn't work.

I've seen this before but ignored it, however when it affects Mme's viewing it's the end of the world.

    Anyone else experienced this?

    All the best, Pub.

It happens when you are recording the programme as well as watching it live. It's when the main programme finishes. Solution is watch the recording a few seconds after it starts (chasing playback). Once watching the recording you can pause fast forward etc within the buffer without getting dumped to live TV. It's a great way to watch ITV. For an hours recording start watching the recording after about 15 mins. Once you have skipped the ads you finish watching about the same time as the programme finishes and you have 15 mins to make a cup of tea.

Hmm, we weren't recording Blue Planet however we had recorded Strictly which preceded it, wonder if it was the Strictly recording coming to an end that dumped us, as you say, back to live TV.

It would make sense as I have the 5 mins padding set.

    All the best, Pub

Why are you using padding ? Setting it turns off the broadcaster capability to adjust start and stop recording automatically (Accurate Recording). It works flawlessly on the main channels like BBC ITV Channel 4 and Channel 5.

Because the end of recordings were too often missed. YMMV.

I haven't missed the end of recordings on the main channels in months. Channel 5 used to be poor but that is also now reliable.

On the rare occasion I want to record a channel that doesn't properly implement AR, the best way is add a manual recording with a repeat pattern.

I'll switch it back to auto, see how we go.
