All of a sudden all our recordings have vanished and we can no longer record anything.
Does the HDR-100s have a maintenance mode where I can try and fix the disk? If so how do I enter it?

Try putting into standby and wait until you hear the hard drive shut down then remove the plug socket from the mains for around 10 minutes, power back up and see if that resolves things.

You have posted in the HB-1000S thread but mention a "HDR-100s". Which is it?

I suggest you put the unit in standby and then bring it out again.
Wait for 1 min after you can dismiss the small guide before trying to look at the recordings.

Now try again, are they back?

Gonzo beat me to it, we both think the problem may be looking before the list has been built by one of the boot processes.

My mistake, I posted in the wrong forum, sorry! It is indeed an HDR-1000s.
I had already tried your suggestions but the recordings do not show up.
Also I can no longer record, pause or rewind live tv.

I think the disk may be broken if not it may need chkdsk/fsck and that's why I'd like to enter maintenance mode (if it exists).

There is a disk cleanup. Don't think anyone knows exactly what the does however.

IS the disk being seen at all? Check in settings - system settings.

I don't think the disk is being seen.
    The menu is as follows:
    STB mode
    Software update
    Factory default
    Storage
    Power saving

When I choose storage it says: Connect a USB hard drive (HDD) to the box to be able to record programmes and pause live TV.

That's not good. If under warranty return it to the retailer.
If not I think I would check the internal connections (Power & SATA). If you don't find anything then there are two posabilities:
    1. The motherboard SATA controller has failed.
    2. The hard disk has failed (More chance of this).

Do you have any old SATA hard disks around just to see if the disk is detected?

I have experienced all of these problems so it looks from your comments that it will have to go in for repair which means a 4 week wait no doubt and so no TV or recordings!

Tried plugging in an external USB drive. It is recognised but still can't record.
A factory reset didn't help either.
I think it is there's a few months of warranty left so will take it back.

What a pity they are such closed boxes, no way to backup settings and recordings, no way to run diagnostics and no way to replace the hard drive without voiding the warranty altogether.

A 4 week wait doesn't sound very attractive...

Good news for once, have a 5 year guarantee with Richer Sounds and they have just simply swapped the unit so I don't have to wait six weeks for a repair now. Yippee!!!
