Hi welcome to the forum. You need some dlna server software on the PC. Windows media player should work. Google sharing content with Windows media player. Other suitable dlna servers include Wikimedia.

Hi Graham, have got windows media player installed on pc, sharing/streaming turned on but the box still cannot see it, I cannot understand why not.

Have you turned on ALL sharing settings.
Control Panel > Network and sharing Centre > Change Advanced Sharing settings.
    Network discovery ON
    Media Streaming ON
    Public Folder Sharing ON
    Password Protected Sharing OFF

Windows Media Player > File > Manage Libraries > Videos (etc)

    Check Libraries have suitable content.

    Try going to...

Change advanced sharing options then scroll down till you see media streaming then click on choose media streaming options.

Then change show devices on to all networks now make sure you have allowed it in the list.

I take it you see your PC on the Humax media but there are no files do the above and below.

It will more than likely come up as unknown device so allow it.

Then you should see all your media on your Humax.

Using Windows Explorer - Does the network show your PC as a Media Device when you start Windows Media Player?

With Windows Explorer does the properties (sharing tab) for path C:/Users/YourID/Video show it is shared and say under "Password Protection" that a file shared with "Everyone" can be accessed without an ID or password?

Does the above path contain files?

Hi Garyb, no I donot see my pc on humax media it is always blank, apple tv used to work fine though. Tried all sharing options no avail yet shows xbmc video and music folders straight away as xbmc (myid pc) , I cannot understand why, also does not see my laptop running windows 8.
All files are in the correct folders but the humax refuses to see either pc.
