Unless it was a sheer co-incidence and the cause was a power spike from your mains supply? I assume no other sign of any other electrical items playing up from around that time?

Does your wife wear synthetic slippers? Could have shuffled up a sizable static charge?

How old is the Cyrus amp? Could it have beed the victim of a failing PSU (dodgy caps) which in other equipment has been known to fry other of its components such as hard drives?

    gomezz, thanks for the suggestions

I don't know what could have caused a power spike. Nothing else has been effected and it would have been an extraordinary coincidence for it to have happened the second my wife switched the HDR off

It wouldn't be static as she used the remote to switch it off

The amp is about 7years old, but has had a fairly light life which was working fine up to that second
