Why would this cause missing icons?

The data seems to delivered using the internet. Run a temporary cat 5 cable to your router to see if they come back.

I have the impression that the check for updates these is not run every day (at least on the HB-1000S, which uses a lot of the same logic.)

I beg to differ , mine hasn't been connected to the internet for well over a year and the icons are still there on showcase and the EPG, they also update on the EPG without any internet connection.

The showcase programme pictures are delivered over the internet, so no internet no pics.

So the EPG icons should be available with or without internet wonder what has changed for mines to just all of a sudden stop showing.

Is there anything else i could try?

I still think this is a periodic process and it will update in due course.

I have seen my bedroom unit wake up in the early hours as I see the reflection of the network LED flashing (which may just be LAN activity). However it does not do this every day.

It is the case that some updates, firmware, for example, can be either via internet (in preference, faster) or broadcast.

Looks like you are right icons are now showing after a few weeks of none. Will note that my box as of now isn't connected to the internet so having a connection doesn't have anything to do with the icons.

All is good now hopefully if anyone else comes across this issue this post might come in handy.

I have never seen these icons - but then until yesterday I wasn't looking. Are they meant to appear wehen you select "On Demand"?

    Thanks

    Thanks

Yes, when selecting On Demand via the Home Menu.
And also the Channel icons/logos on the EPG, have a look at page 1 as the OP has posted 2 pictures.
