On Saturday 14th March I recorded a BBC2 HD program “Ireland: The Edge of the World”. When I go to watch the program I see the description displayed correctly but when I select “Watch now” I see a message “Not supported file format”. It is just that one recording. I have several other recordings which are OK. Only 15% disk space is “Used” so plenty space available.

    Box is 30 months old.
    Software is UKSFAA 3.00.96
Update date is 13th August 2018.

It sounds like the file may be corrupt but does anyone know if this is a common, occasional thing (it’s the first time it has happened for me)?
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Maybe it was a Freesat issue for that one program or satellite data transmission error?
Is it a sign of impending disk problem? The box is covered by a purchased six year warranty until August 2023 so do I simply wait to see if it gets worse?

    Any advice welcome.

    Thank you.

So you are interested in getting an answer as well? Let's hope someone can help us both then. Watch this space.

I connected & formatted an USB drive. It was recognised, but nothing will record here either. Does that help diagnostics?

You cannot record to a HDR USB drive, only a HB model.

The error has been seen by a number of posters including myself, it is rare and the cause not known.

There is a similar problem that occurs occasionally on the HDR-FOX T2 and that is believed to be due to the box temporarily getting its encryption keys confused so that it makes recordings that it can't subsequently decrypt. Happens maybe once or twice a year on our HDR-FOX T2. The fix is simply to power cycle the box.

Sounds as if it is something acceptable if it only happens rarely.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest.

Ten days after I sent my 1010S to https://www.digirepairs.co.uk/ it came back perfect. All recordings etc restored.
    Delighted with their service.

Your first post in this thread just says "Happened to me too last night..." in response to someone complaining that a single recording was unplayable. Was that your problem or was your problem that the hard drive could no longer be accessed?

Everything happened in very short order.
Firstly, machine became sort of sluggish in responding, then, same evening reported problem with file playback - a format problem.
I power-cycled several times then left it till the morning - only to find that the drive was no longer recognised at all.
Tried multiple power cycles, then sent it away. £55 well-spent I'd say.
