It's possible that it might appear in time. But as of the time of writing this post, the now app is not available on the Aura. But don't get me wrong, I would love to see it available on the Aura. But I think it could be a long while. If we ever see it
if I'm honest I don't like the way that article is worded because it almost suggests that it should be simply because of the fact that the aura is an android TV device, I'm afraid things quite often don't work like that. There are licensing and certification considerations that come into play, which is why the Netflix app isn't available on the Aura.
To be honest, I think the version of android that the aura runs at present might be a bit old for Now to go out of their way in terms of support. I think support would become far more likely if we had a major firmware update which brought the aura to a later version of android

The person in the article is making an assumption that it is coming but I wouldn’t hold my breath. There hasn’t even been an Android update never mind a firmware update…

Just received this from Humax customer support after asking about NOW TV app, as it's available on Chromecast with Google TV.
Hi Matt,
Thank you for contacting Humax.
Unfortunately due to a contract that Now TV have with Sony, we will need to wait until that contract expiries before we are able to get a contract of our own with them to get the app available on our device. We apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing.
Best Regards,
Iuri S

Presumably, Sony had an exclusive agreement with Now TV for Android/Google TV devices that has now ended, which is why the Now TV app is now available on Chromecasts, NVidia Shield, and numerous Android TVs.
For those who think that an update would be required to get the Now TV app on the Aura, the Now TV app requires Android TV 8.0, see:

Are NowTV still supporting Apps? The reason I ask my parents have Samsung TV's which had built in NowTV app, but that stopped working a few weeks ago and Samsung have confirmed it is no longer supported.

The original Chromecast is no longer supported with NOW TV (casting) which is why I got a "Chromecast with Google TV" and that now has the NOW TV app installed since I read the OP. I think older devices are being dropped by NOW.

This would be great if it did happen, I could ditch the Now TV box I have to use just for Sky Sports. Given that Humax seem to have given up on bothering supporting the Aura I can't see it though. I imagine one of the requirements with Now TV is up to date OS, and Humax don't seem to care about keeping it updated.

And now the EurosportPlayer app is going in Jan 23, and is being replaced by Eurosport app that doesn't seem to be visible in the Aura appstore. And my Chromecast with Google TV has just updated to AndroidTV 12, looks like the Aura is being left behind

You’ll find that sometime in the future something will change and the Aura will stop working and we’ll be left high and dry. This happened to me with regards to a Digital Stream pvr which was great but something changed and had to do with Freeview channels or something. The DS had issues and couldn’t be fixed via firmware so was of no use. I don’t know if it ever got resolved but it was a good machine.
It’s also a bit like when mobile phone apps stop working because they are only supported by newer firmware.| Tue 15 Nov 2022 15:22:59 #10 |
