One other thought, it might be worth capturing the network traffic using something like Wireshark from an FVP-5000T connected to the WAN and where instant recordings fail and comparing the network traffic with an FVP connected to the WAN where the instant recordings succeed.

I've done a couple of recordings now by pressing the Record button a second time. You then get the option of manually setting an end time. I set this to 10 mins after the scheduled end of the programme just to be safe and it's worked both times. Bit of a pain but it does seem to be a reliable workaround.
