Recordings have vanished

My 1TB HDR-1000s was 96% full. I had set a daily recording of Pointless and the episodes built up. Yesterday I decided I had better free up some space so I deleted lots of programmes bringing the used space back to 47%.

I then decided to do a disk cleanup. I suppose I thought it might help with fragmentation. However today when I accessed my recordings list only three programmes were shown with a total of 6 episodes. The progress bar still reports 47% space used.

None of the recordings that remain will play. Each gives an error along the lines of file format not supported.

I tried another disk cleanup and then a factory reset but the majority of my recordings are still missing. Does anybody have anything else I could try to regain my 47% or is a reformat my only option? Thanks in advance.

Edit to say I'm on the latest software 1.00.59

It looks like a format is your only choice.

..... I don't think I'll be using the Disc Cleanup feature now.

Thanks for the reply. I have reformatted and everything is back to normal. I would also be wary about using Disk Cleanup in the future.
