What does 'records four channels at once" mean?

I seem to get error messages when there are only three recordings, and have to make the choice of cancelling/rescheduling if I want to add another.

It is possible to record four channels at once, I do so regularly.

I may have this wrong, and someone will correct me if I have, but it depends on the muxes the channels you want to record are on. If two or more share the same mux then four recordings are possible. If each channel is on a different mux then you can only record three at once.

From the FAQ on the Tech Specs tab

"With the 3 tuners on this unit it is possible to record four channels and watch a fifth across 3 multiplexes."

So, what it says on the box is actually a lie:

"Record four channels at once while watching a fifth"

    Should be:

"Record up to four channels at once while watching one additional channel"

    Not a lie at all.

If you had read the FAQ's - some of which were published, by me, before the unit was available to the general public it would be clear what the minor limitations are.

It isn't actually a lie you can record 4 channels at once and watch a fifth, I often do just that.

The box also clearly states there are only 3 tuners, so it should be obvious that there will be some limitations, all of which are clearly stated on the Humax website.

Familiarise yourself with the concept of a multiplex (Mux), depending on transmitter you could have as few as 3 or up to 8 (possibly more if in range of low power local Mux). With 3 tuners you can only use a max of 3 at once.

Humax tuners are cleverer than most as they can extract (Demux) two at the same time from the same mux.

    Google Freeview on Transmitter xxxxx.

Here's the result for Sutton Coldfield
