    Hello,
My box has just started failing and wondering what my options are.
I can't pause live TV anymore and playback of existing recordings are now crashing the box.

What make, model or type of hard drive should i replace with?

Is there any way to recover the recordings i have on the existing hard drive?

    Thanks

You can recover the recordings, no problem. As long as you're copying them back onto the same box then you're fine.

Either a Seagate pipeline or a WD surveillance/AV drive, both are low power.

Depending on if the errors on the drive are logical or physical a reformat might solve the problem. Based upon the reboots playing recording it is quite possible it is the later.

If you copy off the existing recordings a reformat is worth a try.

    Thanks.
I've just got a 2TB Sky+HD box from Gumtree for £20 so i've ripped that out and installed (WD Green).
Formatted ok so fingers crossed will record tonight.
I've not seen the fan spin up yet, is that always on or just kick in when the temp goes up?

    Thanks for the link.
Looks easy although i'm sure i'll prove otherwise!
Shame it involves removing and copying and replacing between the two drives.
