   Advice sought from fellow owners with some technical expertise. While viewing a streaming programme the picture disappeared and would not return. When checked the box was extremely hot. The box is well out of warranty and the best Humax could offer was leave it to cool, unplug for ten minutes and it should reset.

   An attempt next day failed to obtain a picture although there is power to the box and the HDD sounds as if it is turning.

   I am faced with three options:
   1. A fixed price repair from the online experts
   2. A replacement box at £200 plus
   3. Accept that my Panasonic Viera SA500 is elderly (8 years) and I should buy a new TV with built in Satellite reception.

   Any advice gratefully recieved.

   Hello edislaw,

   Welcome to the forum.

   You could add a few more options:

   Option 4.
   Do a factory reset, reinstall the firmware if still a problem. Have you tried doing a reset or checking if firmware maybe corrupted?

   Option 5.
   Maybe hard drive is corrupted, my guess the buffer for pause live TV. This normally runs continuous for 2 hours. Try turning it off and then reboot PVR. If still a problem, reformat drive.

   Option 6.
   Purchase a good used 1100s from an honest seller on eBay/Amazon for considerly less money, even high street cex offers the boxes with 24month warranty for less money.

   Loads of top tips. Hopefully may have helped you. Please let forum know how you get on/ if you need more help. John L

   Thanks for your very prompt response jdlfreetime. The problem is perhaps more serious than I expressed. The picture disappeared from my screen altogether and the box appears not now send a signal. I tried changing the HDMI Port on the TV with no success and I've tried other devices on the original HDMI port to eliminate the TV as the possible problem. Does that rule out a factory reset?

   Option 5 requires a degree of skill I know to be beyond me. I do, however, plan to speak yo our General Store which takes on to fix many things at reasonable prices. The issue there may be that the online specialists can achieve more, more quickly, if they are a good option - pinions would be welcome.

   Option 6 is certainly a useful route but I'm more inclined to buy a newer model TV. There are models around for about £250 which have built in Freesat.

   Option 5. Is very straight forward if you are able to access menu screen. Reformating drive is also an option, but only if you are able to access menu.

   Another thought is remove hard drive totally from your PVR and see if box boots up showing a screen menu.

   Other than that, hopefully a local repairer can help you.

   What that doesn't rule out is a failed HDMI cable.
   To do that try using a different HDMI cable, and also try the existing cable with a different device.

   Which model of Humax do you have?
   You have posted this in the HD 1000S, 1100S sub-forum. Nether of those models have an HDD.

   Thanks for the comments Luke. The HD 1100S does, according to the specs on this site - https://uk.humaxdigital.com/product/hdr-1100s/ have a 500Gb HDD and if that is incorrect I'd be fascinated to know where the 125 hours of programmes are stored?

   You are correct about the cable, I didn't explain that I had successfully tried another device on it.

   I have also tried connecting the box to my laptop buyt the laptop doesn't see it.

   You’ve confused HB and HDR. This sub forum is for the HB-1100 which doesn’t have a hard drive.

   I am not sure the issue is necessarily with the hard drive. It depends what was generating the heat. If it was the chipset (say the box is in an cabinet or somewhere with restricted air flow and doing a lot of work streaming) then it’s possible it got too hot and has either stopped working or has unsoldered itself.

   I think you’ll need someone to look at the box to determine what’s happened.

   Hi prking, I hadn't looked at the sub heading, as most users have the hdr1100s model, but post should have been posted under other section, but nevermind, loads of advice to hopefully help you along edishaw. Could be hdmi fault, but could also be hardware issue. It maybe overheating issue, dry joint etc, but worth checking hard drive. John L
