I wonder how many of us are being careful to avoid our electronics overheating at the moment. Normally, we watch tv around lunchtime then leave the 5000T on until bedtime. Now I switch it to standby until we want it again.

Doing much the same with my laptop.

The newer recorders from Humax all seem to run hotter than the older versions. Combination of smaller, plastic casings with lower heat conductivity and reduced airflow/no cooling fan will raise the internal temperature.

Switching to standby is good practice, as is avoiding stacking up electronic units on top of each other. One thing you can do is stick extra rubber foot pads to the existing ones to get a bit more gap at the bottom, also make sure there is plenty space all around the recorder.

Yes, I already have the front of the box lifted a bit, though the reason was to help with visibility of the lights.

I have not had any heat problem with the 5000T, I am just being careful during this very hot period in the southeast.
