I've watched live TV via a freeview box since they became available.
It has been much cheaper to buy new freeview boxes, as the services
improve, than new TVs. I've used Sony, Panasonic and now Humax, to
    name a few.
i.e. my aerial is plugged into the freeview box, RF in.

Many Humax remotes can control the TV as well as the box.
Doing it this way means I have only one remote (for watching TV) on my
    coffee table.

Why not simply add a TV UHF splitter ?

Connect the aerial to the splitter in.

One output to the TV the other to the PVR.

I don't need a UHF splitter or an extra aerial cable or an
additional remote on my coffee table. I just want to easily
record, find, interrupt and resume watching and then delete recorded
    shows on the Humax.

BTW my TV is > 10 yrs old and I haven't tried tuning it
recently, why would I bother when always I watch TV shows via a
    freeview box

A delete option is missing after selecting "Continue watching".
