Recently purchased a HDR-1000S direct from manufacturer. Had problems with the first unit - screen going blank in middle of viewing (and staying blank for 1 or 2 hours), recordings not being done in entirety and the unit,at times, failing to record. Also, Horror+1 would at times be broadcasting an islamic program. This islamic program has now moved to channel BET - very strange! I exchanged the unit for another unit only to experience the same problems with the replacement unit. I shall therefore be requesting a full refund and will purchase another Freesat PVR from a different manufacture.

Since the Humax is the best Freesat box currently out there (even with its faults) you're going to be even more disappointed with your alternative. The problem you have is nothing to do with the Humax, more likely dish alignment. I would put money on that.

Did you check you signal levels _ setting > system > signal (from memory)?

Yes. Have checked signal quality which changes from time time. My landlord is not helpful in checking dish alignment so I have to find another freesat box from a different manufacturer.

If it is a dish related issue which sounds as if that very well could be what the problem is, then using a different box from a different manufacturer won't solve the problem.
Your best bet is to get the dish and cabling looked at.

You won't find a freesat+ box with a more sensitive tuner than the Humax. How far up and down does the signal quality bar graph go and what does the box say about the signal.

Settings - System Information - Signal Info.

Signal will vary with channel - Horror +1 Comes from Eutelsat at 28.5E rather than most channels from Astra at 28.2E. A bit of statistics on various channels signal quality levels over a week should convince Landlord. In the UK I would expect 90-100%.

Your loss of picture (Blank screen). I would not have though this was a signal problem - sounds more like a cable problem, (How is it connected HDMI? check seating at both ends).
Were you on the channel a long time - the Humax by default is set to go into standby after a few hours (System Settings) which would give the result you describe.

Off topic, That screen could do with the channel name and number on it.
Very good for a record and makes it clear that it is only for that channel.

The current channel is in the channel preview top right (BBC1-HD in this case). Open the full image from the link.
