everyone seems to mention a clock on the front display, Where is it? I only have the channel info, ie BBC ONE HD, no clock not even in standby. so how can I get mine to show. Second question is it advisable to connect my Sony home theatre system to Humax box via optical cable.

Settingd - Power saving in standby settings - select Normal. From memory this costs about 6 Watts rather than < 0.5 Watts.

Where are the standby settings?

Settings - System Settings - Power Saving - Standby Mode - Normal
No problem with connecting using a toslink cable to anything with a suitable input. All the audio outputs analogue and digital work at the same time.
Note for anyone else who might read this, the clock display only applies to the 1000/1010S models. The 1100S has no display.
A power penalty of about 5.5W will cost you more.
Say 16hrs/day in 12 months that's 16 x 365 x 5.5 watt hours equal to about 32 units. At 15p/unit that's about £4.80. A battery LCD clock will run for longer than 12 months using a cheap AA or AAA battery.
