    Hi
    I have a 1TB Samsung external HDD which I format as ext3
I connect it to my Humax Foxsat HDR vU7.51 (still going strong!)
Then I download recordings, some of which are over 4GB (hence the need for ext3)
I then connect it to a Windows laptop and use Ext2 Volume Manager to assign a drive letter

Finally I transfer the movie to my ReadyNAS and then to my iPad

When the external drive fills up, I wipe it (reformat) using a freeware utility in Windows and start over

I have been doing this successfully for years

However I cant remember the process to successfully reformat so that windows can read
After reformatting it and assigning a drive letter, windows can see it but complains that it is not formatted

Anyone know what I have forgotten to do?
    Many thanks
    Ian

Please could you tell us the name of the freeware utility you are using?

    Hi Martin
Thanks for the quick reply, I am using AOMEI (aomeitech.com)
This is not what I used to use and may be the issue
Trouble is I cant remember what I used to use (may have been EaseUS?)
    Thanks

I use the utility to format the external HDD and select ext3
Fat32 also works, and windows can read this, but that is no good for large files

Windows won't read ext3 drives natively so you must have been using some add on to read them. Try this article for some suggestions https://www.howtogeek.com/112888/3-ways-to-access-your-linux-partitions-from-windows/

I don't remember using one of these but I must have as "ext2explore" works like a charm - Thanks Martin

Last question, I am running Firware vU7.51, do you know if there is a later version I could download?

    Glad you got it working.

Firmware U7.51 is the loader; the main firmware latest versions are (I think) 1.00.21 for the standard firmware or 4.1.3 for the custom firmware.

Thanks Martin, I have searched many links for "Media & File Server Bundle for the Foxsat HDR - Release 4 - PART 1" all the way to 6, but the links to the software and instructions do not work

"403 Forbidden" or "The file link that you requested is not valid." or

"Dangerous Webpage Blocked You attempted to access:https://vpn-access-protection.com/landing-page/This is a known dangerous webpage. It is highly recommended that you do NOT visit this page"

Do you have a link to the software that I can download?
    Thanks
