Looks like my humble telly (Samsung UE40EH5000) hasn't got that. Tempting fate I know, but the Humax hasn't misbehaved since I set the output to 1080p, as suggested above. Fingers crossed...

The setting may well be in some obscure place. One way to tell is to manually put the TV in standby. If the Humax also goes into standby then it's got it.
I never liked the Auto output resolution - the Humax has an excellent upscaler - let it do the work rather than the TV.

There's a thread somewhere that if I remember correctly was a Samsung TV), that had no way of disabling CEC. The poster in the end bought one of the HDMI adaptors that disables the CEC contacts. I did have a look at the OP's TV manual, despite it clearly having some advanced features it makes no mention of CEC control at all.

If It's not implemented on the TV, wouldn't that effectively disable it?

If It's not implemented on the TV, wouldn't that effectively disable it?The TV in question had CEC, just no way of turning it off. Turning off the TV turned of the Freetime box. As there's no way of turning it off on the freetime box the adaptor sorted it out.

That's diabolical.

I will see if I can find the relevant thread.

Well now. If I turn the telly off – or on again – with its own remote, the amp goes dead for a few seconds, then carries on (as it’s getting its signal from the Humax, then to the speakers, it doesn't need the telly to make a noise).
That would seem to indicate that there’s some sort of control going from the TV to the amp, though not on from there to the Humax…?

I suggest you have a look at the receiver manual (pp48-49) in the light of Graham's post about the CEC possibly being permanently enabled. You may need to change a setting on the receiver.
