Humax support just told me to factory default the box (no mention of losing recordings) and turn the volume up to fix my issues.A factory default will not affect your recordings. You will need to build your recording schedule again and also any changes to the default settings you have made (default volume for instance).
Why the default setting for volume is 50% is default is a mystery, at 100% the output is a standard level for analogue audio on most kit.
Most of us with Humax pvr's turn up the box volume to max after a reset.

Ah sorry, I thought I'd lose all recordings. As for the volume it is up at max but then HD channels are then too loud. I can't find a good balance like I could before the upgrade.

I've noticed a couple of things since the update:
It takes longer to start up.
It discarded my manually set IP settings & forgets re-entered ones every time I put it in standby. A side effect of this, that I discovered, is the fact that YouTube doesn't appear in 'On Demand' if the box isn't on-line. Once I enabled DHCP on my router (which I prefer not to) the box starts up, connects to the router & YouTube appears.
It plays some media movies with the correct aspect ratio.

I've done the factory default, and the Freetime logo now appears quicker, but still no picture. It takes 1m30s to boot up from standby. Is this normal? It never used to take this long.

The sound issue is a showstopper issue that needs addressing NOW. It leads to a huge disparity of volume that could break peoples speakers and cause complaints from the neighbours. The Youtube functionality is great and well designed. It is a welcome addition althouhg can cause a crash if you go between different videos too quickly in the search results. 5 on demand and 4OD need to get their act together.

I bet the cowboys have only tested HDMI. Also there is still no sign of ftp acess although there is an ftp server there responding. I wonder if i can crack the username password. I have tried humaxftp and 0000
