Somethings wrong. Boot from sby on mine. 35 seconds to picture/audio. 40 seconds to home screen. Could be a hdmi handshake issue. Test by removing the hdmi lead and using a scart lead.

And how long to scroll down as I described, i.e. without keying in a channel number?
I'll try channel numbers later, but seems like this shortcut is only any use if you memorise the numbers, which kind of defeats the purpose of having the guide.

Exactly. What I'm reading here are work-arounds for an inherent problem. A bit like... the gearbox is rubbish but if you double-declutch then it's just fine.

Not workarounds at all, just a different and better way of using the epg. Do I detect a degree of embarrassment that there is a better way of navigating the epg that you personally did not find ?

Following your negative postings so far there has always been a solution to your problem. No idea if my box will exhibit the delays you experience. No intention of testing it either. Why would I ? Never used the epg like that, no reason to.

What will be interesting is if you try out the suggestions and still have the problems then this will indicate local problems.

That's down to you, suggesting that we try out techniques we never use, worse still are less efficient is plain lazy, daft, stupid (choose your adjective) on your part.

Trying to help here, faced with your attitude clearly you aren't interested in a solution merely trying to perpetuate a pointless argument.

If you lose the attitude, try out the suggestions and if they don't work then you will find members trying to help.

    I'm out of here

Here's a vid of me opening the EPG. You can see the lag. More vids to come showing the lag when you "scroll" or "page" through the EPG.

EDIT - seems the file extension isn't allowed by this website, let me fiddle with it.

Try this - quality is low as there's a file size limit as well. Maybe I'll take a few more vids and stick them on youtube instead.

EDIT - once again thwarted - "denied mime" this time - anyone know how to get this site to allow the uploading of videos?

    OK, try this:

    http://youtu.be/nD3O5433NJA

You can hear the clicky remote as I press buttons. All I'm doing is opening the guide, then hitting down until I go over to the next page of results, then i click up again, then down again, so you can see that thing redraw. Slowly.

Looks normal to me, but then it doesn't really bother me anyway.

Right. So maybe I have the visual acuity of a pigeon or something?

If this was a website, I'd expect a delay, probably wouldn't mind it. If the data is being fetched, and it takes a second or two to get it, then that might explain things - in which case aggressive caching would be the answer. However, judging by the speed in the rest of the UI, and the fact that the UI seems to be stateless (I.e. it doesn't remember your selections or choices in between calling up the guide, or search, for example), it would appear that the box is acting as both server and client to a web UI. For a device like this, that would certainly be an interesting tech choice, great in terms of extensibility, but not the most efficient in terms of performance. It's not just the speed that bothers me though, I'll post a few more vids at some point soon.

    Peace out.
