I have to say the menus are really snippy to zoom through, quicker than youview and sky's zzzz old (I mean new) guide. Backwards EPG is really quick now. Is this being stored locally or live from freesat via the internet?

As an experiment I disconnected my box from my network. Previously this would have meant no showcase or catch up epg.

To my surprise catch up and Showcase still displayed content. Of course you couldn't play anything

Based on this It looks as if this data is now delivered ota along with the normal epg. I would expect that the box download usage is now considerably lower than previously. Not been able to check this out yet.

If anyone else would try this out to confirm. Note the newest entry in catch up. Pull out the net connection and leave the box in sby for a few hours. Boot the box and see if there's any newer entries.

I have just checked out keying in the number of the next channel and the display is almost instantaneous as opposed to the nearly 3sec lag that I and many others on this thread experience when using page down.
The problem is; that means another situation requiring 3 key presses instead of 1 key press. It is counter intuitive. It is clearly not how the guide was meant to be navigated in spite of what other posters have said.
If it is possible to provide almost instantaneous information via this long winded three button workarouund then it should be equally possible to provide the same speed with the time honoured, industry standard, second nature, single key press, page down (or up) scrolling method of navigation. The fact that there is a 2,5 to 3 sec time difference to achieve the the same result from these two different metods would seem to indicate a design flaw in the software. Are the posters defending this situation (and in some cases even denying there is a problem, when there clearly is) personally responsible for the software or in some other way connected with ensuring that the good reputation of this box is upheld regardless of the facts. That would seem to be the only possible justification for their stance.
I thought this was meant to be an independent consumer forum where users could post their experiences and discuss good and bad points that hopefully Humax might pick up on and use this feedback to inform future software fixes and improvements. At times, however, it feels more like a fan club website where the product is defended with all the blinkered vigour of a prepubescent teenager warding off criticism of her favourite boyband.
In summary the box doesn't perform properly as demonstrated by the 2-3 sec lag when scrolling. The box is capable of performing far better as demonstrated by the three button workaround. Solution: provide the same fast response time via the usual one button page down scroll method by fine tuning the software.
That some people are happy to fiddle about with their remotes trying to find workarounds and alternative methods of achieving simple tasks doesn't relieve the manufacturer of the responsibility of providing a smooth, intuitive, quick user experience for those of us who just expect it to work as it should.
And while I'm at it, please Humax, either fix the dnla client ot take it off. it's pointless being there if it doesn't do the job properly.

Still 1.87 seconds longer than it takes using the long winded tree button work around. Proving that it takes 1.87 sewconds longer than it needs to take.
Why is this now on two threads (one of which is about starting the guide on bbc 1 and no really connected with this topic.

It's certainly strange that the two different methods of scrolling the guide produce such different timing, using the same data stream. That suggests a different program thread for each of the two methods, one very much more efficient than the other. There's a clue there Humax on how to fix this.

Thanks, sorbiegunnerou, for a while I thought I'd shifted into Bizarro World where up is down and down is up. Fortunately the sun still rose in the east this morning...

I'm hopeful this can be looked at then. Ultimately that's all I was looking for, acknowledgement of the issue, that it will be looked at, that it will be addressed.

This lag is also present in other lists - such as Recordings - where all the data should be local (no network hops). Hopefully a simple GUI issue.

Yes, there is plenty of evidence on this and other forums of those who defend Humax in all things. Reasons for that I do not know, but could speculate that having made a purchase decision and then recommended that to others, and that decision/recommendation is then criticised, there is an element of hurt pride or bruised ego. They then resort to cheap personal insults. In that respect this is becoming like a poor mans Facebook.
Having worked in the Telecoms and Computer industries for nearly 40 years, in every role from programming low level assembler to Europe-wide Project Management, I've debated with, and been insulted by, the very best, and they left the room wiser than they came in. So bring it on.
