One thing we can try now you have the cable is to upload a small file that forces a default reset. I can provide the file if you want to try it, let me know by PM email address to send to if not the one you signed up with.

Sorry for late reply Biggles.Have been away from computer.
Yes batteries changed in remote, but no difference.Remote works now after checking hard disc and doing long (soak) test by leaving PVR on BBC1 programme for 12 hours. I now switch off fully after use, avoiding standby.I usually get an e mail when updates are being transmitted so no loss there.
Thanks to everyone who have made suggestions

It's not a good idea to directly switch from ON to OFF with the switch at the back (mains OFF) unless the machine has locked up and you have no choice. Switching from ON to STANDBY allows the machine to do certain housekeeping tasks and then shuts down the hard drive. Your post #265 suggests the front panel buttons work so if the machine 'locks' in STANDBY why don't you bring it out of STANDBY with the front panel button. From the information in your posts it still sounds like a remote control problem to me.

    Hello,

This is an amazing site, thanks for all the good advice, my PVR had exactly the same problem and I was eagerly awaiting Tuesday to do the installation of the new software but have just got home and the installation menu is greyed out so I cannot select it. It was working fine a few days ago as I checked for new software just in case. No joy but I expected that as the software was not due out until today, does anyone have any ideas or help please!!

    Thanks very much,

    Sian

Is the box recording (the installation menu will be grayed out when it is)? If not put the box into standby, when the disk has stopped spinning turn off the mains power, count to twenty and then turn on the mains power and see if the installation menu is now available.

    Hi Sian,

I hope Martin's advice has helped with the greyed out problem.

Don't know if you were aware of the Update Schedule (ending tomorrow morning)& Update Procedure, see links below:

I switched off the box yesterday and left it for a few hours then the installation box came back. Then downloaded new software successfully - yay!

Definitely wouldn't have know about that without this site and was really close to buying another box, so thank you all very very much!!

Hi all - thanks for all the info, really helpful. I have the freezing problem (it's been intermittent and I've been away so only just dealing now). I think I've understood that I need to update the software on my PVR9150 but can only do this when the new software is on air? Even though I have regular auto update selected? I think I've now missed the window for this week to get the 9150 update so have to wait for next week is that right?

Very pleased I'm not going to have to buy a new machine but a bit frustrated they only put the new software on air for 24 hours once a week...

I'd be grateful for confirmation that I've understood this correctly.

I've just had a trawl around the Humax website to write them a grumpy email and found an additional schedule for OTA software transmission on this page

    Humax service notice page

scroll down to the Notices and there's a red link to the latest OTA schedule (PVR9150 is on 21/26/28 Jan at 9am) which is more info than the DTG website

This is the current schedule but I suspect the link below may not stay valid when sched is updated so you can always reach it via link above

    Welcome to the Forum katef

I can only see dates from Dec 2011 listed on the link you have posted.

If your unit settings are as default, then leaving it in standby overnight should result in new software being downloaded when it is transmitted.

Hi Barry - My unit has always been on default and I've reset it to default several times while trying to clear this problem but is not downloading any new software, the software is Dec 17 2008. I never switch the unit off manually but leave it on standby... any thoughts?
