Ah ha! Power saving in standby was set to normal. (I dont recall ever having changed that, is it a default?). Last night, before I turned off, I changed it to Power Save, and checked Auto power down was off. Lo and behold, this morning Auto Power Save is still off. It's not a problem - I cant see the clock anyway as it is too dim!

An update on the problem I had.
It wasn’t anything to do with the powersave in standby setting in the end.
I control my TV, Audio, DVD, Humax etc with a Logitech Harmony 1100 remote. After much experimentation, I realised the Auto Power Save changed to ON when I used the Harmony to turn everything off. If I used the Humax remote, it did not change. At some point I had programmed the Harmony to set the Humax to channel 101 before powering down. I deleted this command, and Auto Power Down does not change now.
Bizarre.
