Sorry forgot to say TV is a Toshiba REGZA AV635. Like you, I prefer to have the source volumes fixed and only adjust the TV volume.

I'm thinking your best option would be to take it back to retailer for a replacement and see if that resolves the issue.

Yes, I was fast coming to that conclusion as no one else seems to be experiencing it.

    Cheers Jim.

At least with a replacement you'll know where the problem lies as if it still happens then that could point towards the tv.
Your TV has Dolby Volume, is it able to be disabled(unless you've already tried) to see if it makes a difference or not?

Another thing to check is the TV has latest available software.

I've pretty much ruled out the TV thanks. It's the Humax box. Why would the TV like some Humax channels and not others?

The HD channels sometimes broadcast in D.D. 5.1 and on these the signal is passed to the TV along with the picture.

Understood, but HD vs SD was the first thing I tested as it seemed an obvious assignable cause. But no. BBC HD and BBC SD both exhibited the volume changes. I think BBC2 didn't.

Ahhhnyway, I shall try returning the Humax (much though I'd rather not) once I've watched all the content!

Thanks everyone - I'll let you know if getting another box doesn't fix it.
