Maybe I didn't make it clear. When this happens the box is successfully showing a channel (picture and audio working normally). It can't be on the wrong source, if it was there would be no picture and sound at all. It just isn't possible to change channel.
Yes the other days it works fine, until at some point it stops working. She is most likely to always do things in the same sequence, ie what she is used to and has learned, but of course I can't be certain.
The order of switching on makes little or no difference, the TV comes on always immediately as does the HDR-1000S (though it doesn't show TV / TV Guide immediately).
All she ever does is turn the TV on and then either watches the channel that is already on or tries to change channel using the TV Guide. So it may be she uses the TV Guide immediately, or else some time later.
Occasionally, probably once or twice per week, when she is ready to change channels, it doesn't display the TV guide. I then come later and try to fix it, finding that the TV Guide doesn't launch when pressing the button, you can't change channels, and you can't put the box into standby via remote or the buttons on the box itself.
I have no idea if the box will have remained on since she last used it, or if she had just switched it on from standby - so it is not possible to replicate the exact sequence of events. She is elderly and a little confused so wouldn't be able to tell me.
However, either way, at some point after switching on and using the box to view Freesat channels, it is no longer possible to change channels or view the TV Guide or put it into Standby. Whether that is immediately after switching on from standby, minutes later or several hours later I don't know.
