Trying manual tuning. The postcode search produces 26,29,23,43,46,40,31,37
I think about 2/3 of these found channels but most didn't return any. Is this because the aerial is pointing SW instead of NW to Bilsdale?

For 23, 31, and 37 on Humax you need to set the 'transmission' on the manual tuning menu to DVB-T2. For the others the default of DVB-T is correct.
For 31 and 37 the signal is a lot weaker than the others and this may cause no channels to be found from those two frequencies if the aerial isn't set up ideally.
If you cannot tune to 31 and 37 successfully then to see which channels you are missing see channels with COM7 and COM8 against them on http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/channels/channel_listings
When viewing that site you can sort the list so that COM7 and COM8 channels are all grouped together by clicking on the column headed 'Mux'.woldsweather - 34 minutes ago »

I would guess the 2/3 means 2 or 3 multiplexes found channels; your suggestion about Transmission type sounds the most likely explanation.

Sorry yes 2 or 3 found channels.
So if the aerial is pointing SW do I need to turn it round to 296 degrees which is the direction of Bilsdale from here.

Sorry yes 2 or 3 found channels. Can you clarify whether you were setting transmission type correctly for each multiplex?

Quite possibly. Which direction do your neighbours have their aerials pointing?

I suspect it will be 23, 26 and 29 which do find channels.

The neighbours aerials are rotated 60 degrees from us to WNW (Bilsdale) whilst ours points SW (Emley Moor?) Question is - is it a case of rotating the aerial to the WNW or will it also require a new aerial?

So have been up and turned the aerial round to 296 degrees (Bilsdale). Did another automatic scan and it found 136 channels. Tries BBC 1 and get s stream without freezing now. Looked through the channels 3 times and I don't see any saying HD - should I?
