I switched to the BBC1 10 o'clock news last night at about 22:10 on BBC1HD and used the green button to watch from the beginning in iPlayer.

I continued to watch when Question Time started. I paused this program after about 20 minutes and, when I returned to the TV about 5 minutes later, a Chromecast-type screensaver was on display. When I hit the Play button, Question Time resumed but in real time rather than at the point where I'd paused it. So I effectively lost about 15 minutes of the program.

    Is this a known issue?

I've only had the Aura for a couple of days but am considering returning it as I've already encountered umpteen bugs which is very disappointing.

Just to elaborate, the "umpteen bugs" comment I made above refers mainly to blank screens in various scenarios. I've been using a PlusNet Humax YouView PVR for the past 10 years and it has been solid throughout. How has the Humax quality deteriorated to this extent? Do they have a QA department?

Your iPlayer issue may be just that, an iPlayer issue.
Do you have TV with iPlayer on it so you can compare and see if the issue only happens on the Aura.

If you read the pages here you will see that the Aura does indeed suffer from many bugs/ anomalies, mysterious behaviours etc.

Humax rushed the Aura out in late 2020 and it was not really ready.
Humax did set up a Beta testing programme and several updates were released to combat several issues, the last major update was released in August 2021, but some issues were never resolved.

Some small incremental updates have been released for the Freeview app, for a fault which seemingly only the Aura suffers and not any other TVs or other manufacturers PVRs.

There is a much rumoured update coming (at the last count, this summer), although we don't know exactly what it will contain, most believe it is an update to the Android system which if true will take the Aura to Android 12.
Thats all very well but for me I don't think updating the Android system will do anything to address the issues which are more directly related to the Humax operating system.

Being a participant in these pages I feel I have got one of the slightly better behaved Auras out there, although it does decide to reboot itself randomly, sometimes just a soft reboot, sometimes a full power down and then power up. It doesn't do it every day but sometimes it will do it several times in succession, so it gets unplugged for 5 minutes and that 'cures' it for a while.
Occasionally while watching TV or a recording it will decide to interrupt and show me the Apps screen.
Every so often it will decide that making one recording of a programme is not enough so it will make a duplicate.

Have a flick through the pages here and decide if you want to keep the Aura or get your money back.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, @VitaminD. For the record, I've used iPlayer on Windows browser, Android phones and tablets, and the app on my Panasonic TV and never seen a problem remotely like this.

I'm used to buggy software on rushed-to-market hardware - Garmin fitness devices being a prime example. But this seems to be on another level.

I had very high hopes for the Aura. I particularly wanted the ability to stream recordings to other devices (which seems to work ok!) which I haven't seen available on any other PVRs.

I bought my Aura from Argos so think I have a couple of weeks to live with it and decide whether to keep it .

As your Aura is new and fresh out the box so to speak it may have an older version of the iPlayer installed
which may be causing the issue.
Press the Freeview button on the remote, select Settings from the top of the next screen.
Scroll down to Apps, click on See all Apps you should see iPlayer under Installed apps.
Click on BBC iPlayer, the version I'm on is 2.2.22-04741a7.

If you are on a different version you can see if updates are available by pressing the Apps button on the remote, select Google Play Store.
At the top of the screen click right to your Google Avatar and click on Manage apps and games then click right on Updates and see if there is an iPlayer update available.

If your Aura is under 30 days old you have (I believe this is correct) the right to take it back and get a full refund or a replacement (I know a replacement is no wanted in your case) no questions asked.

I'm already on the same version of iPlayer app as you.

I've just increased the screen saver timer to 2 hours, maybe that will at least reduce the likelihood of encountering this issue again.

I just checked the Argos website and you're correct - I have 30 days in which to return or replace. I'm just hoping I can learn to live with the foibles of this device as I really like the promised functionality. We'll see! In the meantime, thanks again for your assistance.
