The box goes through a modern Yamaha HDMI A/V amplifier, that I could bypass. I will do the test and report back, but I strongly doubt this is the issue as no other equipment going through the Yamaha amplifier make this message appear.

You are the only user ever to have reported these characters on the TV when using a Humax box. Odds are it is not the Humax generating this. Then again it could be a first. In the past I have seen hdmi resolution messages appear on some TV's during the boot sequence, but always in English. Btw... Philips fully transferred it's TV business in April 2012 having previously announced it in 2011. So possible your TV is Chinese made.

I think you will find that the text is Japanese.

I moved things around quite a bit. I tried the same setup, but with an ASUS HDMI monitor. Started the box and... no message. Read on... as it is not over just yet.
I then unplugged everything again, wired back my Philips TV and... surprise: no message either. Waited for the box to enter power saving mode (about 5-10 minutes, you hear the hard drive stop spinning), started it again. No message. Tried two hours later... the message came back! Now back again with the ASUS monitor... no message. Back again with the Philips TV: no message. Am I going to go mad?I won't be able to isolate the problem, much to my surprise.
I believe this MIGHT be the Philips TV because when there is no message I see "HDMI 1" quickly being displayed in the top left corner of the image. The sat box might fiddle with the video signal in a way which is SOMETIMES uncomfortable with my TV. The amplifier is probably not the issue as things go through HDMI 2 which is a clue it is not part of the problem.
What I know for sure is that with regular everyday use, every single day that I start the sat box, I get the message. So to test things properly, I would need to leave my ASUS HDMI monitor permanently in the living room and see how it goes day afer day. Which I am not ready to do right now as the monitor is for the computer in another room.
Hell, I like when I understand things!

Turn off CEC on the TV to avoid the TV auto selecting the AVR HDMI input.
Select a different HDMI in on the TV and boot the G2 box.
After the boot manually select the correct HDMI input.

If everything else works OK with your setup, does having the odd characters pass the 'So What' test, other than it would be nice to know where they bare coming from?

The power-up sequence on the Humax is slightly different when powering up from full power-off and from standby power down.
Which do you use overnight, standby is recommended?Which picture resolution is set on the Humax?

I sent it to a colleague in Tokyo and it is definitely not Japanese.
He said it was Chinese and forwarded it to another colleague in Shanghai.
If I get a response, I will post it on this thread.| Mon 4 Mar 2019 17:32:54 #19 | -
Thank you! I wonder if it is either Chinese or maybe Korean.
Translating the message is far and away the best option I think.| Tue 5 Mar 2019 7:03:54 #20 |
