It is a DNS based solution, with a automatic proxy like backend solution (I would guess just for specific URLs).

There is currently a problem is setting custom DNS's on the HDR-1000S (I expect it will be resolved soon), I would take a look at making settings on the router - It is quite rare for an ISP to lock the settings down with custom firmware but it is possible.

Hi Repassac

I changed the DNS settings at the router as you suggested and lo and behold it works perfectly. As I told you a friend had be quite adamant that the UPC company would not allow this. Thank you for your advice. I should have listened to you earlier.
