Out of the box setup, Virgin Media Superhub. DHCP chosen. Worked flawlessly straight away. After install I did reserve the initial IP address allocated by the router to the box mac address so it never changes. Same applies to Foxsat-hdr, HDR-Fox T2 and HD FOX T2. I have other kit on my network the same procedure worked for all of them.

I suspect that something like 99% of Humax users are not technical and won't be interested or able to change router settings and, frankly, why should they be expected to?
I appreciate the input from the technical people but it would be interesting to know if a standard (out-of-the-box) setup/config exhibits the same behaviour as my daughter's On Demand experience.

Generally users cause their own problems by using their units in unexpected ways. Examples include failing to place units in standby at the end of a day. Non using DHCP (Default) network settings.

If users never change default router settings then there should be no problems what so ever. However I have no idea if DHCP leases are renewed correctly as my lease period is a week and the unit is in standby every night.

I will mention that power saving home plugs can cause the network connection to become apparently unavailable.

Using Comtrend 902 Powerline adapters with my BT HH 4 I have never had to do any setting up, other than making the remote ones (5) slaves when first plugged in. I don't put them in standby so have had to suffer a few failures because they are on 24/7.

Not putting then into standby is not a good idea.
On power up the unit checks quite a few things - such as firmware update availability and other changes. It will also cost you at least £20 p.a.
It is the same as leaving a PC on 24/7 - you also increase the prospect of errors.

I'm confused by posts #13 and #14. What is it that is left on permanently? Is it the powerline plugs or the appliances attached to them?

Agree I assumed the PVR but you may well be correct.

Gonzo, I updated my box with the beta file that you gave a link for and now it seems worse as before at least I could see my on demand players but now I just get told I need to connect to broadband! Do I need to go back to my previous. Software and if so how, or is it that the file did not actually change anything that needs to be updated?
Have no Freetime at all at this moment in time!

Try a factory default and see if that helps.

Well after applying the beta file I tried a a factory default reset and there was no change all I got was the message that I needed to connect it to broadband connection when I tried using on demand. Left it over night tried again but just the same. I then reset the router but still no change, so I did a factory default reset again and this time all Freetime services re appeared! The only thing I noticed that was different was that the IP address has changed but only by one digit.
What does this beta file actually do and should I have applied it to the latest version of the Humax 1000s software?

Did you not read the info that came with the download file as to what it's for?
Whether you should have or shouldn't have applied it, well you didn't actually say why you downloaded and installed it in the first place?
