Well after applying the beta file I tried a a factory default reset and there was no change all I got was the message that I needed to connect it to broadband connection when I tried using on demand. Left it over night tried again but just the same. I then reset the router but still no change, so I did a factory default reset again and this time all Freetime services re appeared! The only thing I noticed that was different was that the IP address has changed but only by one digit.
What does this beta file actually do and should I have applied it to the latest version of the Humax 1000s software?

The different IP address was caused by the router reset (forgetting past allocations). Following this with the reset to the HDR-1000S caused it to forget the DHCP lease it had and ask for a new IP.

My guess is that the router needed to be reset (or perhaps just power cycled). We leave these devices (Which like a computer have a CPU and memory) running month in and out.

The reset file resets certain settings (mainly to things like on-demand and showcase) to their initial default without the need for a fully reset to factory default.

Well the reason I downloaded the file was that I was not able to get OnDemand, Showcase and Backwards EPG and the info that comes with the file says it is for those who are experiencing the above three problems!
But I was just wondering what it changes once applied or does it simply reset something without doing a factory reset?
I guess I was in such a hurry to fix the problem that I did not look at the date of the file and I am just a little concerned that this file might not be compatible with the latest software from June this year that was already installed! I'm really just wanting to know if I have done something that will cause me problems in the future or not?
Thinking about what the various resets do, it's strange in that I did all these various resets the previous day and it did not work but then it did! Anyway it's working ok now.

    Hi

I am also having this problem since the last software upgrade. This is what I found. I am using a wireless adapter.

a.) It tells me I need to be connected before I can use demand, but if I use the channels back button to view previous airings I can view them and then once I have done, the Demand becomes available.

b.) Having seen the not available message, if I go to settings and attempt to connect to what it tells me is "Great you are already connected to RouterName", then I go back to On Demand and bingo, it's available again.

In conclusion, in my case at least I believe that the Humax box sometimes does not flag up that is is connected when coming from Standby to a status of on perhaps if the wireless connection or lan connection takes a little too long to establish the connection.

Once you view something on check or your network status, it re-establishes the flag and everything works.

Perhaps Humax could comment on what possible fixes can be made available ?

gelpack - This thread is currently quite dated and there is a more up to date thread running.

I think freesat think they have fixed the issue. If you are still having problems I suggest you contact them.

You will not get a comment from Humax - it is freesat that spec nearly all of the software functionality.

See http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/help-unable-to-use-ondemand-or-showcase/page/52#post-31309 for Freesat's advice to another user with this problem.

Hmm. Well, thanks for the information, the new thread doe sent cut it really, at least not in my case.

The point is that connectivity is there, not that its a DHCP issues which it clearly is not otherwise I would have no internet connectivity as I can actually watch previous airings as already explained.

This I believe is simply a timing issue when the box first starts up. The fix would be to reassess network connectivity at the point you select the On Demand menu option by which time the network would or should be up.

    I will contact Humax.

Sorry - wrong link. Should have been http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/help-unable-to-use-ondemand-or-showcase/page/51#post-31249

But I agree your best course is to contact Freesat. This problem seems to have been resolved for most of those who reported it in this forum, so Freesat should be able to help you.

Edit. N.B., Freesat not Humax. Humax will just refer you to Freesat.

If memory serves me right 8.8.8.8 is a public Google DNS server.

OK, well just to prove a point I will hard-wire the DNS and give it a try.

Actually, I thought Freesat was simply a construct for agreed program delivery and pointers to the publisher streaming service but the physical connection issue was a Humax problem.

Maybe I have more to learn then.

I think we're at cross-purposes. Some posters in that thread were suggesting that it could be a DNS problem, but personally I don't think that's likely. I would contact Freesat. They're not by any means a construct - most of the programming and services for the 1000S/1010S comes from Freesat. Give them a ring, they should be able to sort it out.

    Here's the advice from Freesat:

    1) Have the set-top box connected with a working internet connecting and working satellite feeds.
    2) On the Humax box please conduct a factory reset
    Go to settings/system settings.
Select factory default and confirm by selecting reset system.
Select yes on the reset system screen.
Enter 0000 unless you have set a personalized pin.
    3) Let the box boot up to the Freesat setup screen.
    4) Complete the setup with a valid internet and satellite feed connected to the set-top box.
    5) Once the set-top box has booted to the home screen, press the exit button on your remote control.
    6) Leave the set-top box for 1 hour.
    7) Place the box into standby mode for a few seconds.
    Power the box on.
    9) Press the home button on your remote and load showcase (which should now be working).
    10) Press home and select On Demand.

Worked for at least one poster (on the third try) so you might want to try it.
