I've just set back up my Aura 2TB after not using it for a while.

I've been trying to FTP into the box from my Windows 10 laptop using WinSCP but I keep getting the following error:
"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.Connection failed".
I've also tried connecting with PuTTy but getting a similar error message.

All the settings appear to be correct & the Aura is all setup to accept FTP so not sure what is going wrong. When I had the box setup previously it connected without any issues.

Has something changed in the firmware recently that I am not aware of?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What protocol are you using in WinSCP? I think the default is SFTP which won't work, you need FTP. If that isn't the problem then tell us what settings you are using please. Personally I use Filezilla with the following settings:

Protocol: FTP - file transfer protocol
Host: the IP address of the Aura
    Port: 2323
    Encryption: Only use plain FTP
    Logon type: Normal:
    user: aura
Password : box pin default 0000

I notice that you have a Pi Hole, which caused a problem with FTP, see:

Pi Hole was something that I tried sometime ago & no longer use as it seemed to create more problems than it cured.
It's just an old entry that I have just deleted.

I have just installed Filezilla & tried that & still getting the same issue.

Odd. Do you have the FTP anonymous option on? It should be off if you supply a user name.

I'm a new user of the Aura and have had this problem a few times. That's after FTP was working. I've found going into settings, record & share and turning file share off then on again sometimes clears this problem.

    Problem solved.

It appears that the problem was with a program called "Diversion" which is an Ad blocking program that is installed on my Asus router.

I disabled Diversion & my laptop connected to the Aura straight away.

I've just got to work out a way of whitelisting the Aura now so that I can leave Diversion running on the router.

Thanks for all the suggestions, it was the comment about Pi-Hole that made me think about Diversion being the issue.

Glad you found a solution. It is certainly not the first time that something unusual on the network has stopped FTP working.
