I am a newbie here as well as a recent owner of the 5000T and am disappointed with a couple of limited features compared to my previous box the HDR-2000T.
However, I'm hoping it's down to my lack of searching skills.

I'll stick to the title issue though.

Pressing the search button on the remote brings up the search box on the TV screen. I wish to search on the word New: (Note the colon), as this will list all new programmes or episodes due to be transmitted as opposed to all programmes that contain the word New such as "BBC News", "ITV Evening News" etc.

My problem is I can't find how to type the colon symbol (:) from the on screen options. It only seems to offer me letters or numbers.

I'd be grateful if one of you could enlighten me if it's possible to achieve this.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

I don't believe you can use special characters.

Barry: Out of curiosity I tried that and all I got was 1111111, even though pressing quite quickly.

Barry is right, pressing the key with the number 1 on it several times gives you punctuation. You’re not selecting the on-screen 1 are you?

    Barry,
Thank you so much, that worked perfectly.
It takes be back to the time before predictive texting when you had to press each key repeatedly until you got the character you wanted on the screen

    Much obliged to you.

If it helps, Barry was talking about the remote control keypad rather than the on-screen keyboard.

Thanks for trying though, and I hope it works for you too.

Thanks, I didn't realise that Barry was talking about the remote keys, I thought he meant the on-screen keys which do have a "1".

    Cheers Barry.
But what a completely non intuitive system, it would make far more sense to include the characters in the onscreen keyboard.
