I was looking at the 1100s (in white) at a John Lewis store yesterday in the flesh.

It is virtually the same to look at as the outgoing models albeit about a third smaller and without the front display. I've never been a fan of the all white version, either the old or new model.

Strange that all the available stock I've seen is in white. The most popular, I would have thought, would be black.

Given the new models don't have a display, one has to wonder if the missing icons saga isn't simply down to the fact that icons are redundant for the 1100s which is why they ended up being omitted in the update.

Does the release of this newer box consign the older model to history?

    Seems so.

Consigns it to a lingering afterlife in the "Refurbished" area of Humax Direct I expect.

I suppose they'll need to get this latest/last software version right then as there's probably no reason to support retired hardware with future software updates.

Can anyone tell me if the newer box has a faster processor?

I would guess that functionally, the components are the same except for the known two removed items (Display and SCART).

That the firmware is said to be the same points to the same PVR chipset.

My guess is that the new unit enclosure will be used in many products globally and as such will bring economies of scale.
