Recently bought a non working HDR-1000S taking a chance it may be the hard drive having read many historic reports of this on this forum.
HDD 1Tb is perfect and now running in my Win 10 computer.
No lights on the front at all using front switches or controller.
Tried the basics, changed PSU, Scart and HDMI connections etc.
Done a main board inspection on both sides and components looking good.
When powered up the main CPU heat sink gets hot quickly so does an adjacent capacitor which is strange.
The box is I think 2015 the age of the HDD but it may have been changed of course as no box seal.
Has anyone found a fix for this over the last few years or is it time to recycle?
    Many thanks

    Rob

Thankyou grahamlthompson for the very prompt reply and helpful link which I will look at.

Our current Foxsat HDR has worked perfectly for about 8 years now!

I am a newby to this forum so thanks for any help.

I would have thought that, unless it is being heated by the heat sink, the hot capacitor might be a good place to start with. How about replacing it?

No guarantee that will sort it, but worth a try.

    Changed capacitors this afternoon.
    As suspected no change.
    Thanks for your help.
